Historic Preservation in Waitangi

Challenge

As one of Aotearoa’s most-visited historic locations, Waitangi is a key destination for local and international visitors alike. Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi and Te Rau Aroha Museum of the Price of Citizenship are open to the public year-round, with a large volume of daily visitors and regular events held onsite at the function centre.

Both Te Kōngahu and Te Rau Aroha house precious taonga (treasures), which are unique to Aotearoa and tell the story of the history of Waitangi. The HVAC equipment runs 24 hours per day, 365 days per year to maintain specific humidity and temperature levels and ensure these taonga remain preserved for everyone to enjoy.

Solution

Chilltech designed custom maintenance procedures based on the museums’ needs. The service team undertake regular, comprehensive maintenance checks of the HVAC system, which includes a chilled water system, hot water heat pumps, air handlers, dehumidifiers and a Building Management System (BMS) to ensure the efficient operation of the plant and capture any potential issues early to avoid disruptions or potential risk to the taonga displayed.

Chilltech also has several key personnel for the site and its HVAC systems to add a depth of knowledge, consistency and rapport for the client and their staff.

Outcome

By undertaking regular, comprehensive maintenance inspections, based on the unique exhibits on display and the controlled environment they require, Chilltech’s service team can stay ahead of the game and swiftly respond to issues as and when they arise.
